This Privacy Policy explains what information OwnVersion ("OwnVersion", "we", "us") collects when you use http://ownversion.com (the "Service"), how we use it, and the choices you have. It is written to describe exactly what the Service does today. When that changes, we will update this policy first.
1. Who we are
OwnVersion operates the Service and is responsible for the personal information described here. You can reach us at [email protected].
2. Information we collect
Information you give us
- Account details. If you create an account, we collect your name, your email address and a password. We never store your password itself, only a one-way cryptographic hash of it.
- Messages. If you email us, for example to request a catalog listing or to ask for support, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to include.
Information collected automatically
- Session information. When you visit the Service we create a session. For each session we store your IP address, your browser's user-agent string and the time of your last activity. This keeps you signed in and helps protect accounts.
- Search queries. What you type into search is used to show you results. We do not save searches to your account or build a search history.
- Server logs. Like most websites, the infrastructure that runs the Service may record technical request data, such as the page requested, the time, your IP address and your browser type. We use these logs for security and to keep the Service running.
Information we do not collect
- We do not use third-party analytics, advertising or tracking tools.
- We do not collect payment information. The Service does not currently offer paid plans.
- Fonts and images are served from our own servers, so loading a page does not send your information to font or image services.
3. Cookies
We only use cookies that the Service needs to work:
| Cookie | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
ownversion-session |
Keeps your session, and you signed in, between pages | 120 minutes of inactivity |
XSRF-TOKEN |
Protects forms against cross-site request forgery | The length of your session |
remember_web_* |
Keeps you signed in when you choose "Keep me signed in" | Up to 400 days, or until you sign out |
Because these cookies are strictly necessary, we don't ask for consent to set them. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, but signing in will not work without them.
4. How we use information
We use the information above to:
- create and manage your account and sign you in;
- send account emails you ask for, such as password reset links, which expire after 60 minutes;
- protect the Service and its users, for example by limiting repeated sign-in attempts and investigating abuse;
- respond to your messages and catalog requests;
- operate, maintain and improve the Service and its software catalog;
- meet our legal obligations.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or a similar jurisdiction, we rely on these legal bases: performing our contract with you (running your account), our legitimate interests (security, preventing abuse and improving the Service), your consent (where we ask for it), and compliance with legal obligations.
5. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising. We share it only:
- with service providers who host the Service or deliver email on our behalf. They may use it only to provide those services to us;
- when the law requires it, or when it is necessary to protect the rights, safety or property of our users, the public or OwnVersion;
- in a business transfer, such as a merger or acquisition. In that case this policy would continue to apply to information transferred.
6. How long we keep information
- Account details are kept while your account is open. When an account is deleted, we remove its personal information, except where we must keep some of it to meet legal obligations or resolve disputes.
- Session records are kept while the session is active and are cleared after they expire.
- Password reset tokens expire after 60 minutes.
- Emails you send us are kept for as long as we need them to handle your request and keep reasonable records.
7. Your rights and choices
- Update your details. You can change your name, email address and password at any time in your dashboard settings.
- Access, export or delete. You can ask for a copy of your personal information, or ask us to delete your account, by emailing [email protected]. We'll respond within the time required by applicable law.
- Object or restrict. Where we rely on legitimate interests, you can object to that processing.
- Complain. You can lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
If you are a California resident: we do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under the California Consumer Privacy Act. You have the right to know, correct and delete the personal information we hold about you, and we will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.
8. Security
We protect information with measures that include hashed passwords, encrypted connections, access controls and limits on repeated sign-in attempts. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security. Please use a strong password that you don't use anywhere else.
9. International transfers
We and our service providers may process information in countries other than the one where you live. When we transfer personal information internationally, we use appropriate safeguards required by applicable law.
10. Children
The Service is not directed to children, and you must be at least 16 years old to create an account. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
11. Links to other websites
The catalog links to the websites and source code of the software we list. Those sites are run by other people and have their own privacy policies. We aren't responsible for their practices.
12. Changes to this policy
We will update this policy when our practices change, and change the effective date shown at the top of this page. If a change is significant, we will let account holders know by email or with a notice on the Service before it takes effect.
13. Contact
Questions or requests about this policy can be sent to [email protected]. Our Terms of Service are available at https://ownversion.com/terms.
