Questions, answered

What is OwnVersion?

The easy way to run your own version of the software you pay for. Pick an open-source app, a creator’s own version of a tool, or one of our apps, and click deploy. We host it on a private server for you, keep it updated and keep it running, for one monthly price.

Do I need my own server or any technical skills?

No. We set up a private server for your account and install your apps on it. If you can sign in to a website, you can use OwnVersion.

Who fixes bugs in the apps?

We always handle hosting, updates, backups and uptime. Bugs in an app’s own code are fixed by whoever maintains it: the creator who listed it, the open-source project for apps we package ourselves, or us for our own apps. Fixes reach your instance in a normal update.

Do the people who make these apps get paid?

Yes. Part of every membership goes to the creators of the apps members run, split by how many members run each one, much like streams on a music service. For open-source apps we package ourselves, we send a share to the project.

How do I get started?

Create an account, connect your DigitalOcean account and create a server. We set it up in about 10 minutes, then you deploy apps to it from your dashboard.

We’ll handle the rest.
