OwnVersion

For creators

Built your own version?
Get paid when it runs.

You built the open-source version. Now skip the part where everyone has to host it. List it on OwnVersion: members run it in a click, and you earn every month they do.

How it works

You build it. We run it. Members pay. You get paid.

  1. 1

    You list your app

An open-source app, or your own version of a tool people pay for. You keep shipping updates the way you already do.

  2. 2

    We package and run it

We turn your releases into one-click deploys and run a private instance for every member who wants it.

  3. 3

    Members use it

They click deploy and get their own copy at their own address. No setup on their side, no support tickets about servers on yours.

  4. 4

    You get paid monthly

A share of every membership goes to creators, split by how many members run each app that month.

How you get paid

Like streams.
For software.

Members pay one monthly price. A share of each member’s payment goes to the creators of the apps that member runs, so your earnings grow with every member who keeps your app running.

We’ll publish the exact share and payout schedule before launch.

Example

A member runs three apps this month, one of them yours.

Their membership One monthly price
Creator share Set aside for the apps they run
Your app One of three, so a third of that share

Creator questions

What can I list?

Open-source apps you maintain, or your own version of a tool people pay for. It needs a license that lets us host it for members, and you need the right to list it.

My project is already popular. Is it on OwnVersion without me?

We package some popular open-source apps ourselves when their license allows it, and send part of their earnings to the project. If it’s your project, you can claim it: take over its listing and its share.

Who fixes bugs?

You fix bugs in your app’s code and ship them as normal releases. We roll them out to every member and handle everything about running it: servers, deploys, backups and uptime.

Do I give up my license or my code?

No. Your project stays yours, under your license. Listing it on OwnVersion just means members can run it without hosting it themselves.

When does this start?

We’re onboarding the first creators before launch. Apply and tell us about your app.
